Quality Improvement
The Mental Health Review Tribunal has implemented a quality management system to assist the organisation in achieving its goals and objectives and to provide a service that is reliable, consistent and meets the needs it's customers.
What is a Quality Management System?
A 'quality management system' is the way you operate your business on a day to day basis, including how customer requirements are understood, how services are provided and how activities are undertaken to ensure customer satisfaction.
A Quality Management System is specifically designed to create measurable improvements in performance in every stage of the business. It takes the goals and objectives of the organisation as a starting point, and systematically addresses business practices and activities to ensure they help to meet these aims.
What are the benefits of implementing a Quality Management System?
The benefits of implementing a system are many, including advantages to both internal processes and external operations and alliances that can free up management to focus on service improvement.
A Quality Management System ensures:
- that risk management strategies are in place
- enhanced recognition that the organisation is focused on it's customers needs
- continuous improvement of business performance through ongoing audits
- boosted staff morale through increased management efficiencies
- Bottom-line benefits through increased efficiency, reduced waste and better utilisation of resources.
What is a certified Quality Management System?
A certified Quality Management system is a way an organisation can align its business processes to recognised standards.
The Mental Health Review Tribunal has made a commitment to adopting the International Standards Office (ISO) ISO9001:2008 Quality Standards throughout the management and administration of the organisation.
The ISO 9001:2008 series for quality management have proven applications for all aspects of business, in organisations across all industries. Every organisation is different, with different business-related objectives, and different ways of achieving them. The advantage of the ISO 9001:2008 based system is that it has been created with internationally accepted business management principles at its core.
The ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System improves:
- Efficiency and consistency
- Customer satisfaction
- Product and service quality
- Staff morale
- Corporate profile
It reduces:
- Waste
- Duplication of processes
- Exposure to risk
- Staff turnover
When an organisation operates according to ISO 9001:2008, it can gain recognition for this achievement through certification of its Quality Management System. Certification involves an independent expert assessing the organisation's system to ensure that it helps deliver specific business aims, manages risks - and in so doing, meets the internationally recognised ISO standards.
There are over 600,000 certified companies worldwide using ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems.
In December 2004 the Mental Health Review Tribunal had its management system audited by a third party certification vendor for ISO 9000 certification.
In January 2005 the Tribunal was awarded certification against the ISO 9001:2000 standards for a three year period.
In December 2006 the Tribunal was re-assessed against the ISO 9001:2008 standards and in January 2007 was awarded a further three year certification period.
