The MHRT is an independent statutory body established under the Mental Health Act 2000 whose primary purpose is to review the involuntary status of persons with mental illnesses. The Tribunal consists of the President and other members, including lawyers, psychiatrists and other persons with relevant qualifications and/or experience.

The Tribunal does not investigate healthcare complaints. If you have a complaint about treatment please contact the health service complaints officer or the Health Quality and Complaints Commission
